Why I dropped out and why people do
This is completely anecdotal.
Why I did it
Iโm going to skip over a few personal things, but Iโll try to keep in as much as I can for this to make sense.
Fall of โ22, almost 20% of students dropped out of college. And I was one of them.
Going to tell my parents was not fun. Mostly, because any argument that this was a good idea would lead back to a page like this:
In my nearly year-long argument, I picked up a few interesting stats.
- 40% of college students dropped out in 2022.
- ~24% of them came from private universities
Weโll skip over the parental support anecdote for a minute and break down why I did it and compare it to why a lot of young adults are making similar choices.
I dropped out of my fourth year of college because:
- I was dealing with trauma from some not-so-healthy experiences (very normal in 22 years of existence)
- I was a promising, young candidate for VC (I just kept ripping the right moves for it)
- I had a small group of other drop out kids that kept me on track (out of anything bad)
- I needed financial stability/decreased debt
- It was 2021 and thatโs kinda what the vibe was.
Disclaimer: My Advice
Iโve been running The Wiress for three years now, been an advisor on dropout communities like Verci, and Iโll tell you what I tell every girl that asks me if she should drop out. I say no. I do this for really only one very specific reason - those who want to drop out will drop out.
There is no reason to be creative unless you have a problem to solve. Mine, was that even if I wanted to do the function of venture capital - I felt a massive wave of pressure to change into a long, sad, lifeless persona that was a โwoman in finance.โ And who on earth wants to be just like that.
